The crew at Hen’s Teeth have delighted us with another incredible experience: Apocalypse Chow: A Feast at the End of the World by Laura Callaghan in association with Tanqueray.

We attended the launch party this week to sample a taste of what’s to come over the coming days, and it did not disappoint!

The exhibition and feast – happening from the 15th to the 20th of September – is an immersive installation and series of dinners imagining a feast at the end of the world.

Apocalypse Chow is an exhibit at Hen’s Teeth gallery where everything has been designed by leading Irish artist and illustrator Laura Callaghan. Her intricate watercolour, gouache and pen imagery can be seen across everything in this Bacchanalian-inspired tablescape and installation.

In the exhibit, Laura explores modern-day concerns about climate change and digital surveillance come to life on the page in a riot of colour and chaos. In one piece, a lone figure sits in a custom car interior seemingly unaware of the disasters taking place outside, in another an oneiric dinner party takes place.Pieces in the exhibition represent an alternative, tongue-in-cheek list of signs which culminate in a celebration of the end: a lavish banquet table replete with custom tableware and textiles which conjure up the ecstasy and freedom of Bacchanalia to face the Apocalypse. The show also includes larger format works, which encourage the viewer to examine the intricate details and create their own narrative within the work.

“I’ve taken inspiration from the fifteen signs of doomsday, popularised in the Middle Ages which chronicle the bizarre events that are said to occur a fortnight before the end of the world. These new works combine my two main interests: food and nihilism and explore mediums like ceramics, screen printed textiles, watercolour work and silk banners.” – Laura Callaghan, artist.

Attendees are welcome to pull up a pew at the banquet table to fully immerse in the show. For those looking to dine at this feast at the end of the world – a series of ticketed dinners will take place as part of the exhibition programme. The five-course menu features lavish dishes by Hen’s Teeth head chef Dylan Mullen paired with delicious Tanqueray cocktails.
