- Combine the chocolate with a little of the milk in a small pot and place over a medium heat until melted.
- Whisk in the remaining milk along with the cream, cinnamon, vanilla and salt. Add the chilli to the pot and bring the mixture almost to a boil. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes. Remove and discard the chilli.
- Whisk in the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, and taste until it reaches your desired level of sweetness. Add the brandy or Cointreau, if using.
- Return to a very low heat until hot, then pour into mugs. Place a cinnamon stick in each mug and serve.
Note: Cointreau can be used as an alternative to brandy, if you wish.
