Hot spiced cider

Serves 8-10

1.5L good-quality cider
2 cinnamon sticks
4 cloves
2 star anise
4 tbsp ginger syrup (from a jar of stem ginger)
Juice of 1 orange
3 tbsp light soft brown sugar

To serve:
Orange slices

  1. In a large pan, combine the cider, cinnamon, cloves and star anise. Warm over a medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes.
  2. Add the ginger syrup, orange juice and sugar. Bring to the boil, then simmer for five minutes.
  3. Serve in heatproof glasses or mugs, garnished with orange slices.
