Cranberry and pear chutney Easy Food

Serves 12

50g butter
1 red onion, chopped
450g pears, peeled, cored and diced
175g raisins
1 tsp mixed spice
60g brown sugar
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tbsp cider vinegar
60ml port
225g cranberries, thawed if frozen
Zest and juice of 1 large orange
Salt and black pepper

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over a low heat. Cook the onion gently for 5-6 minutes until soft. Add the pears and raisins and cook gently for 10 minutes.
  2. Add the mixed spice, sugar, vinegars, port, cranberries and orange zest and juice. Stir to combine and cook for another 10-12 minutes.
  3. Season with salt and pepper, then add more sugar or vinegar to taste if necessary. Serve warm.
