Mojito
A popular cocktail and a classic for a reason. You can't go wrong with a zesty, fresh mojito!
Serves 6
Juice of 6 limes, plus extra wedges to garnish
50g caster sugar
Ice
1 bunch of fresh mint leaves, plus extra to garnish
350ml white rum
250ml soda water, chilled
- Muddle the lime juice and sugar together until the sugar dissolves and add to a pitcher.
- Add enough ice to half-fill the pitcher. Add the mint leaves and rum, stir gently to combine. Top with the soda water and stir briefly.
- Divide amongst six glasses, garnishing each with a few sprigs of mint and the remaining lime wedges.
Sangria
This fruity cocktail gained its fame in Spain (try saying that 5 times fast!), but can easily be enjoyed from the comfort of your own couch with our simple interpretation, the Summer fruit sangria.
Serves 8
1 x 750ml bottle of sparkling white wine
600ml cranberry juice
160ml coconut rum, e.g. Malibu
50g blackberries
50g blueberries
50g raspberries
60g strawberries, hulled and quartered
To serve:
Ice cubes
- In a large pitcher, combine the wine, cranberry juice and rum.
- Add all of the fruit and stir gently. Refrigerate for at least two hours, then serve over ice.
Martini
This swanky cocktail is incredibly easy, even a mixology noob like me can master it on the first try!
Serves 4
320ml gin
60ml dry vermouth
To garnish:
12 olives or 4 twists of lemon peel
- In a cocktail shaker or pitcher filled with ice cubes, combine the gin and vermouth, adding a little more or less vermouth to you personal taste.Stir for 30 seconds.
- Strain into chilled cocktail glasses immediately.
- Garnish each with 3 olives on a cocktail sick or a lemon twist.
Aperol Spritz
This trendy cocktail is ideal to make in batches and share with all of your guests!
Serves 8
1 x 750ml bottle of sparkling wine
500ml Aperol
250ml soda water
Ice
1 orange, thinly sliced
- Fill a pitcher about a quarter of the way with ice. Pour the sparkling wine on top.
- Add the Aperol and top up with the soda water to taste.
- Garnish with the orange slices.
Margarita
"Anyone for a round of margs?" — famous last words.
Serves 4
Juice of 2 limes, plus 1 lime wedge to
garnish
Sea salt
120ml tequila
60ml orange liquer, e.g. Cointreau or
Grand Marnier
Ice
- Rub a wedge of lime around the rims of four glasses. Pour some salt onto a saucer and dip the rims into the salt. Set aside.
- In a jug or shaker, combine the tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice. Shake or stir well.
- Fill the prepared glasses with ice cubes and pour over the margarita mix. Garnish each with a few slices lime.
