The Scullery in Co. Tipperary has launched its 2020 online Christmas shop, meaning customers can purchase a taste of festive #EdibleHistory in the form of handmade Christmas puddings, luxury brandy butter and delicious chutneys from the safety and comfort of their own homes.
Nenagh native and The Scullery founder Florrie Purcell has very fond childhood memories of starting to make the Christmas puddings with her mother — a process that started in September. The family had a weekly ritual of taking the pudding out to look at it, and everyone making a wish. Known as “the Pudding Girl,” Florrie has a personal affection for plum pudding and her miniature, individual versions are proving to more popular than usual this year as smaller family gatherings are likely.
Over the years, The Scullery’s Christmas range has expanded and now includes gift sets as well as Florrie’s Ham Glaze, The Scullery Cranberry Sauce, The Scullery Fig Chutney with Balsamic Vinegar and The Scullery Mulled Christmas Chutney, which are all gluten-free. All of the products are handmade in small batches and contain no additives or preservatives. We were lucky enough to sample some a couple of weeks ago, and can confirm that they’re of superb quality — the miniature plum puddings and brandy butter, in particular, disappeared in record time!
The Scullery has amassed an impressive portfolio of awards since its inception in 2004 and this year its Guinness Onion Marmalade won gold at the Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards.
