“Only Irish coffee provides all main essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and fat”
The Irish coffee was not created for Christmas, but it has two things that are the most demanded at Christmas time: warmth and Irish whiskey.
The oft-repeated story goes that Irish coffee was invented in the old Foynes Flying Boat Airport in 1942 when a transatlantic plane had to turn back because of bad weather. Another version of the story goes that Irish coffee was invented in The Dolphin, in Dublin’s Temple Bar.
Whatever its origins, Irish coffee has become the perfect decadent drink to warm up the winter season. Irish love enjoying it on St. Paddy’s Day, Black Friday (at home while shopping online) and, especially, on both Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.
Irish coffee has only four ingredients: coffee, whiskey, sugar and cream – but it has got plenty of twists. Have a look at our unique recipe to make Irish coffee easily at home.
