Want to live sustainably? Check out this new minimal-waste shop

Kitchen and food waste is a serious problem we at Easy Food are well aware of, and try to tackle on a daily basis. That’s why we were particularly interested to hear that ‘reuzi’, a minimal waste shop, is opening in Foxrock on the 26th August!

Reuzi is originally an online shop run by Pat Kane, which sells minimal waste products such as reusable coffee cups, bamboo cutlery, water bottles, beeswax food wraps and so much more! In her new shop on Brighton Road, Foxrock, she will also offer refills on everything from deodorant, makeup and shampoo to washing up liquid and detergent. Pat will also be running a full calendar of workshops for the community on the subject of recycling, eco-living and sustainability. “Education is the main pillar of what we do,” she says.

All the materials used to fit the shop were upcycled and recycled, and friends and family have donated their time, furniture and fittings to ensure the shop has a low carbon footprint.

It was when Pat became a mom for the first time she realised the amount of rubbish she was going through every day from plastic wraps and bottles to random boxes and the hundreds of nappies!

Pat remembers thinking, “if just two adults and a tiny baby can generate so much waste, imagine an office or a school? My initial reaction was to educate myself on recycling and composting. Our end goal as a family is to replace everything that won’t be recycled or composted with reusable alternatives. It was because of this personal journey, I decided to create reuzi in 2018.”

We love the message Pat is trying so spread, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, with zero-waste week just around the corner, starting on the 2nd September!
