Christmas is a busy time of year for the bar and restaurant industry.

Ah, Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year; a time when we can usually justify a few extra beverages and extravagant lunches, all in the name of “getting in the spirit.”

That’s why we’re hunting down some of the best places to grab a drink in the capital. Whether it’s a cosy bar you’re after, or the full food and cocktail works after a long day’s shopping, there’s something for everyone.

    1. The Bank

The Bank reopened as a pub and restaurant in 2003. Designed by one of the British Empire’s leading architectural lights, William Henry Lynn, this building was once described as one of the foremost jewels of Victorian Dublin. A beautiful ornate pub that’s right in the middle of Dublin, it’s easily accessible, elegant, and has an excellent cocktail selection for a festive tipple.

    2. 37 Dawson Street

One of the best streets in Dublin for food and drink collectively, 37 Dawson Street is one of the most respected establishments on this famous street. Trendy, bustling with people and always a brilliant atmosphere, you’ll struggle to find many bars to match it over the festive season. They’re also offering the chance to book a table after a long day of shopping and put on some SLIPPERS and enjoy some food and a cocktail. You had us at slippers.

    3. Farrier and Draper

Pull up a chair, take a menu and chill in the lovely surroundings of this South William Street bar in the heart of the city centre. Situated over three floors, filled with art deco opulence if that’s your thing — and  it stays open late from Thursday through Sunday. They’ve also got a cocktail menu of reinvented classics created by the staff’s experienced bartenders. Great festive decorations too.

    4. The Church

One of the most picturesque locations in Dublin for a Christmas drink, the Church has the perfect mix between historic old décor and — slap bang in the middle of Mary Street and close to Henry Street — it’s still got all the bustle of a city centre bar and restaurant you’d expect. The perfect place to go for a drink after a long day’s shopping on the Northside.

    5. The Hole in the Wall

The self-proclaimed “most Christmassy pub in Dublin” — and with good reason. The bar, which nestles against the Phoenix Park, doesn’t take the festive period lightly at all, but commits two full weeks to decorating the pub ornately. Pop in here for a cosy pint, an Irish coffee or whatever your drink of choice is if you’re looking to really amp up the Christmas spirit.
