If you’re interested in trying to shop a little more waste-free, then you’ll be pleased to hear that a new zero waste food store has just opened up in Dublin.

Packaging-free health food store, The Source Bulk Foods, has launched its first-ever shop in Dublin. The Source Bulk Foods is a zero-waste shopping advocate, helping Ireland to shop healthily. Targeted at foodies and eco-conscious shoppers looking to reduce waste in their daily lives, the store is set to revolutionise the way people shop for the better.

Following the success of the brand’s existing stores in Australia and the UK, where they have helped their communities save an estimated 600,000 single use plastics, The Source Bulk Foods opened it’s doors this December at 39/40 Castlewood Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6. The originally Australian concept offers over 450 quality ingredients housed in eco-savvy containers. The affordable range caters to vegan, paleo, dairy free, organic and gluten friendly food diets, offering nutritious wholefoods, healthy treats, cooking liquids, and household and personal care products.

With Ireland accounting for over one million tonnes of packaging waste in just one year (a small percentage of the 59 billion nationwide), The Source Bulk Foods offers customers a package free shopping experience in which they reconnect with their food as they scoop items into their own reusable containers from home, glass jars sold in store, or recyclable brown paper bags. Customers can even pull their own honey, buy Kombucha on tap and refill their laundry liquids, shampoos and cleaning products. The Source Bulk Foods store will allow customers to buy what they need without any unnecessary packaging, including single use plastic.

Makayla Drummond, Managing Director at The Source Bulk Foods commented “We feel truly proud and excited to be expanding The Source Bulk Foods family into Dublin. We believe the community here is as enthusiastic as we are when it comes to decreasing the amount of single use plastic, and we can’t wait to open the doors to welcome our new customers.”

Sustainability and zero waste has been quite a hot topic amongst Irish supermarkets as of late (as it should be!), after Lidl introduced reusable fruit and veg bags and SuperValu brought out compostable shopping bags — all good things for our planet. However, this is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see more Irish supermarkets following The Source Bulk’s lead and introducing even more zero waste alternatives into their stores.
