With outdoor dining still the safest way forward, summer 2021 is all about creating special moments in the sunshine. Whether you’re entertaining friends on a sunny weekend afternoon or simply rustling up an al fresco dinner for the family, the revamped YR range provides the finishing touch to any summer meal. From the classic YR Brown Sauce we all know and love — now gluten-free! — to three tasty new relishes, there’s something for everyone.

When you’ve been around as long as YR, you pick up a few tricks along the way. YR has been manufactured in Ireland, to the same recipe, since 1837. In fact, for almost two centuries, YR has been importing ingredients from around the world, blending the flavours and aromas of tropical India, the sun-bleached Middle East and the Mediterranean — peppers, dates, spices, soy, molasses and more — bringing global flavours to the Irish palate.

While nobody would dream of altering the time-honoured original recipe, a few experiments were lovingly recorded and stored in the archives over the years. YR thought it was time to dust off these recipes and put them to the test — resulting in a must-try range of extraordinary relishes. Like YR Brown Sauce, YR relishes are gluten-free and vegan-friendly, with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. They’re relishious!

Three tips for your best summer barbecue
    1. Set the mood

Make your garden the place to be. Add some solar lamps or put up some decorative lights, and don’t forget the tunes! Get a good summery playlist going and watch everyone chill out. If you’ve got more than one household, make sure you’ve got enough space to allow social distancing, and pop a bottle of hand sanitiser on the table.

    1. Prep ahead

Make sure the bulk of your work is done before anyone arrives — you want to enjoy the day, too! Salads and dressings can be prepared ahead of time; just don’t combine the two until you’re ready to eat, to avoid wilting. Get your burger patties made the day before and keep them in the fridge.

    1. Choose your foods wisely

Minimise stress by keeping things simple. Choose a small selection of dishes and aim for foods that are easy to make and enjoyed by everyone.

    YR BBQ burgers

If there are no burgers, is it even a barbecue? These flavour-packed patties are given a serious flavour boost with YR Brown Sauce, then cooked on the barbecue until nicely charred. Served in brioche buns with sautéed onions, peppery rocket, aged Cheddar and YR Original Tomato Relish, these are the ultimate crowd-pleaser.

A rich and luxurious tomato relish, YR Original Tomato is made with sun-ripened tomatoes, onions and sultanas, with a hint of date, tamarind and molasses. Pop some in a cheese toastie, use it for dunking barbecued sausages, dollop over baked potatoes with some sour cream, or use it as a flavour-packed dip for crackers, crudités or crisps.

    Spicy chicken taco salad bowls

In the mood for something with a little kick? Try these spicy chicken taco salad bowls! Barbecued chicken fillets and charred sweetcorn are combined with mixed leaves, chopped avocado and a zingy lime dressing. For an extra wow factor, dish it up in edible bowls made from tortilla wraps! Scattered with fresh coriander and topped with a generous dollop of YR Habanero Spicy Relish.
