    Australia Day 2020

This weekend it’s Australia Day! What a beautiful event to celebrate all the things loved about Australia. We’re talking cute and cuddly koalas, hopping kangaroos, Vegemite and lots of BBQs.

But what has that to do with us in Ireland (seeing that we have far less sun — and no poisonous snakes)?

Well, if you are up to date with the news you know that the beautiful country of Australia is literally up in flames after bushfires broke out there a few weeks ago.

Up to today, more than 10 million hectares (100 000 sq km or 24.7 million acres) of bush, forest and parks across the country have burned.

Apart from people who had to evacuate their homes, a lot of animals, like the endangered dunnart, sheep, koalas and kangaroos were affected by this as well.

Firefighters have been battling these devastating fires for days to try and save the people, animals and the country.

And by taking part in Australia day here in Ireland, you can help them — while also having some craic!
