It’s that time of year again – Thanksgiving 2019 is fast approaching. Even if you’re not a United States native, it’s a great celebration to get on board and Dublin has really stepped up to the plate (excuse the pun) with a variety of locations now paying homage to the US holiday of all holidays.
Here’s our rundown of five of the best:
The Old Music Shop
The Old Music Shop Restaurant and the Castle Vaults in the Castle Hotel aren’t just stopping at the day itself — they’re hosting a full Thanksgiving weekend.
On the day itself, next Thursday November 28th, there’s a set dinner menu from 5pm, with live music from 9pm downstairs in Castle Vaults Bar. They’ll also be serving a Thanksgiving menu across both restaurants all weekend until December 1st from 5pm until 6:45.
Their resident musician will celebrate Thanksgiving with some Americana songs alongside traditional Irish music.
The Fitzwilliam Hotel
Citron restaurant at the Fitzwilliam Hotel is also providing some top-notch Thanksgiving entertainment, as well as a traditional dinner for the purists and some contemporary variations if you’re looking to branch out.
The Gallery Restaurant at the Church
Part of Discover Ireland’s ‘Taste the Island’ experience, this could be one if you’re looking to really step up your Thanksgiving celebrations and experience a mixture of both Irish and American culture — while having your dinner in a 300-year-old converted church!
Situated right between the junction of Mary Street and Jervis Shopping Centre, the event will see chefs creating a set menu, and a live Irish music and dancing show from 7pm.
The Merry Ploughman
One of Dublin’s longest-running Thanksgiving celebrations, the Merry Ploughman festivities take place in a pub owned and run by musicians who have been performing to audiences in Dublin since 1989.
Midway through the evening, all-Ireland and world champion Irish dancers from Dublin and beyond will perform a specially-commissioned show.
The restaurant offers a choice Thanksgiving menu, and as it’s located in Rathfarnham, a shuttlebus can be booked online as an add-on to dinner and the Thanksgiving Show. You can even choose the best pick-up point based on your accommodation.
Advance booking for this is essential, but the pub have also said they’re happy to assist with group transportations.
Democrats Abroad dinner
The 11th annual traditional Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by Democrats Abroad Ireland comes complete with American football and everything else you’d expect from the US national holiday.
The Hilton on Charlemont St. plays host again this year, and is said to go “all-out” for the festivities. Drinks start at Charlemont Bar at 6.30pm, including the football, with table set-up at 7pm and dinner at 7.30pm.
