The hands-down favourite in the Zahra Media office last month were these funky little hamburger cupcakes, so we just had to share them with you. We’re lucky enough to get to sample everything our Food Stylist, Charisse, makes for photo shoots… and it’s not just the Easy Food team, either: we find the Xposé and Easy Parenting teams are more than happy to be Charisse’s guinea pigs!
Last month everyone was raving about these cute cupcakes, and it’s not hard to see why. The kids at our picnic shoot in the park loved how they were a sweet food masquerading as savoury, and the entire office seemed to agree! Needless to say, they did not last long…
1 x 12 pack of plain, small Madeira buns (without icing)
1 x chocolate loaf cake (without icing)
1 x 400g tub of white buttercream icing
Red, green and yellow food colouring
1 Slice the buns in half widthwise, so that there is a top and a bottom.
2 Ask an adult to slice the cake in half widthwise, and then slice each of those pieces in half again in the same direction to end up with four flat pieces.
3 Use a round biscuit cutter, roughly the same size as the buns, to stamp out 12 circles from the chocolate cake.
4 Divide the icing into three bowls. Stir a few drops of red food colouring into one, green into the second and yellow into the third. Stir each until the colour is bright and even.
5 Place the chocolate circles on top of the bottom bun halves.
6 Spread a bit of yellow and red icing on top of the cake, then pipe or drizzle some green icing to look like lettuce. Add the bun tops. You can insert a cocktail stick to keep them together, but just be careful to remove them before eating!
